Men and Infertility - Shut The Front Door…Maybe It’s Him?

When I was trying to get pregnant and nothing was happening for months, I turned to the only other person in my life who could contribute to baby making - my husband.  Because he surely must have a part in our infertility problems.

What science has learned and tests have shown is that sometimes it is the man.  Men’s infertility has been overlooked and needs to be one of the very first tests a couple should have.  It easily eliminates one factor when trying to conceive. When the idea was presented, I was skeptical because I had put all the blame on myself.

My husband was tested and the tests came back “mostly” on the positive side for him.  Except there were a few markers that were a little low for an optimal conception.  So he, too, embarked on a journey to increase his numbers and create better swimmers for us.  Luckily, my partner was willing to make the changes and help with our endeavor.

The first test usually given is a male sperm test which includes Sperm count, Sperm Morphology, and Sperm Motility.  These tests can be extremely helpful to the couple trying to conceive. And most men have no problem “enduring” this type of test!

There are various other issues that can be found as well, but male sperm testing is a good one to begin with!
