How Small Changes In My Kitchen Affected My Fertility

Let’s talk about what you can do to clean out your home of all the toxins and hormone disruptors.  I was ahead of the curve when I was trying to get pregnant.  My acupuncturist suggested I go through my home to get rid of items that were possibly toxic to my system.  BPA - the chemical used in plastics creates potential health dangers.  BPA impacts our egg quality which in turn affects our chances of a successful pregnancy.  It is an “endocrine disruptor.”  Women who have higher BPA levels had fewer eggs retrieved, lower estrogen levels and a lower fertilization rate.

I Eliminated

Non-stick pots and pans

Paper receipts from stores

Plastic drinking bottles

Plastic colander

Plastic microwave containers

Plastic kitchenware

Canned Foods

Highly Processed Foods

Did this instead

Stainless steel/cast iron

Washed hands after handling

Stainless steel canteens

Stainless steel colander

Glass microwave containers

metal/bamboo/wood kitchenware

Only when necessary

Made more organic meals

Since this was back in 2004, there was little to no research to back our “knowing”.  Luckily, my fertility acupuncturist knew these were not helpful in my journey to get pregnant.  Now, the research is there.  If you love reading about this kind of information like I do, I suggest reading “It Starts With The Egg” by Rebecca Fett.  She has condensed everything in her book and explains the science behind all of the findings.

The task can seem daunting, so start with what you can.
