The One and Only Yoga Class That Changed My Life
As I was trying to get pregnant, my acupuncturist referred me to a yoga class exclusively for women who were having fertility issues. It was called “Receptive Nest.” And it was by far the best yoga class I have ever taken (and I have taken a lot since I am a Certified Yoga Instructor). It is the reason why I eventually became a Yoga instructor. I knew someday that I would create and offer a class like this to women everywhere.
The class made me feel like I wasn’t alone. In the first part of the class, women began sharing their infertility stories. They were varied and beautiful, just like each one of us. All of those words that are unsaid were laid out in that room and each woman was better for it. I don’t know what the outcomes were, but when I left there, I knew we were all a little better, wiser and more empowered to handle the road ahead.
The practice of yoga has shown to relieve stress. Stress is known to have a negative impact on fertility as I am sure you have heard or not heard from your doctor. So learning these relaxation techniques helps women’s bodies to realign and reconnect.
Yoga For Fertility Benefits (Yoga and Fertility by Petigara and Jensen):
-Increases energy and blood flow, especially in the heart and pelvic area
-Stimulates the reproductive system directly by focusing on the ovaries and uterus
-Supports and helps to regulate the endocrine system
-Reduces levels of stress hormones in the bloodstream
-Adapts poses according to the phase of the woman’s cycle
-Reduces negative thinking
-Balances yin/yang energy in the body
Again, I was willing to try anything to get the results that I so craved. Yoga was just one of the ways I chose to help me on my path to fertility. This type of physical class is hard to find, but thankfully now with Zoom, we can work remote and feel comfortable doing it. Like I said in my other blog pieces, “Try it and see”. You never know what will work for you and your body.
Be well! Carry on, Goddesses!
